SRC NEWS 1 JANUARY 2007

Perth , Western Australia January 1, 2007 Robin Judd and the Studebaker Racing Team are looking forward to the next two rounds of the ATDC. After a shaky start to the season with two DNQ’s Judd and his team managed to qualify in the number 2 spot at ATDC3 Perth Goldenstates in December.

“I was pleased to get a full run in without lifting for the first qualifier which put us on top” Judd said. “We run well in the heat but always seem to struggle after dark, particularly in Perth. The track changes and we have immediate trouble with tyre shake. The problem with the TD category now is that it is so competitive – any slip up, whether it is a mechanical failure or tyre shake during qualifying you are DNQ. A peddle costs two tenths, the difference between a 6.30 or a teen. Unfortunately a 6.30 is not good enough to qualify now. We ended up in 9th position for each of the first two rounds – caused through tyre shake, very disappointing”.

The Perth event showed improvement for the team when they finished in 2nd with a 6.176 and top speed points for the event. Judd said “We were feeling confident going into the first round, then the motor fueled up as I was backing up after the burnout, I couldn’t catch it before it stalled. That’s the first time that’s ever happened - I’m hoping that black cat is well and truly dead now”.

Later that night testing a new clutch combo Judd reeled off two very quick half-track passes – 4.06 and 4.03. Judd said at the end of the night “In order to overcome the tyre shake after dark here we grabbed the opportunity to test with a different clutch combo, something we haven’t run before. It seemed to work and with a bit of tweaking the car seemed to respond without tyre shake.”

The team is having a few weeks off racing to prepare for ATDC4 the Summernationals in Sydney (mid Feb) then ATDC5 the Westernationals back in Perth (early March). Last season Judd qualified well and made it to the final in both events and was runner-up twice. “Hopefully our luck will change and we can make the finals again only this time win!” Judd said.
