Moonshine Bandit jumps into 4th spot on National Ladder

6th DECEMBER 1999

Western Australian Top Doorslammer driver Robin Judd opened his account in Round 2 of the National Championship Series at the weekend. The 120 points earned from Judd piloting his '53 Studebaker "Moonshine Bandit " to runner-up, moved him straight into 4th spot on the ladder. Judd is now 70 points off the lead, which is held by race winner, South Australian Dave Koop. Victor bray is 2nd with fellow Western Australian Dave Simpson in 3rd.

"I'm really pleased that we've been able to get into the points so quickly, given that we had to miss the first round " Judd said. "The team was ready to go to Melbourne for Round 1 in November when we discovered a crack in the engine block. We didn't have a spare so had to stay home and knew it would be tough giving the other guys a head start".

On discussing the Perth round Judd commented " The conditions were very tough - all the guys had traction problems which made it anyone's race. Luckily, we made it into the final but our tune-up was still too aggressive". Judd lost to Koop with a very loose 7.00 to a 6.88. The actual loss margin was only 8/100's of a second as Judd recorded a quicker reaction time.

Ravenswood International Raceway reported that temperatures reached 39 degrees Celsius (102 F) during the day.

The team plans to attend the Boxing Day meeting at Ravenswood before heading to Willowbank Raceway in Queensland for Round 3 of the Top Doorslammer series on January 15, 2000. Results will be posted as they come to hand.
