SRC NEWS 1 NOVEMBER 2005

Perth, Western Australia November 1, 2005 Team owner and “Moonshine Bandit” Top Doorslammer driver Robin Judd was asked to reflect on the past season and his team’s plans for the 2005/06 season.

“The 2004/05 season was a great learning curve for us” Judd said, “It has taken us a while, but I think we are getting close to finding a formula to run consistently fast. We managed to break into the 6.0’s with a 6.095 at our home track to be one of only a hand full of cars to have done it. We have experimented with various combinations and have now what we think is a safe but very powerful tune up.

“After one or two DNQ’s we still managed to finish 6th in the championship which wasn’t bad considering we had a lot of small problems stop us racing during the season and we missed one round completely. The competition is hot and getting hotter and no one car consistently dominating – but rather a few that can bob up at any time and put in a quick one. This makes for exciting racing”.

“The May Nitro Champs (Round 7) in Sydney was our best event of the year when we got through to the semi finals. Canadian Alcohol Tuner Les Davenport was on hand to help us out and we learned a lot with his assistance.”

When asked how the new season was shaping up for the Judd team, Robin said “Unfortunately we have started the new season on the back foot. The September (East Coast Nationals 1st round of ATDC) meeting in Sydney saw us nudge the wall pretty hard during qualifying. The damage was not that great but enough to stop us from competing. Since then we have repaired the body damage and made some changes to the set up. The result has been that the car goes much straighter, even when it (tyre) shakes.”

Testing a new clutch combination Judd ran in an exhibition mini doorslammer event in (Kwinana Motorplex) Perth on October 22 eventually winning the event. Judd beat John Zappia (world record holder and first in 5’s) in the semi final after Zappia crossed the centre line and then Peter Hamilton in the final for the same reason. Judd’s best run was a tyre shaking, peddling 6.61 at a whopping 241mph showing that the new clutch combo is working in the second half of the track. The car also produced a quick 60’ time of .988 in the final before breaking the blower belt indicating the first half is coming together.

“We are looking forward to the Nationals on Nov 4 -6, and hopefully we can put together some consistent quick times”. Results can be viewed on the following web sites:
